Description
The cellar in Highlands was cool as a night after a slow rain. Alma Keener had finished bleaching her harvest of apples and turned her attention to preparing potatoes for winter keeping. The potatoes had been planted in March on the dark of the moon as all mountain gardeners knew to do.
Baskets of potatoes, an old butter churn, and a handmade broom framed the doorway of the cellar.
